Nova Gorica is the centre of sunny Goriska, a region between the Alps and the sea. With its 24.000 inhabitants it is one of the ten largest cities in Slovenia. The western part of Nova Gorica borders its 'twin' Italian town Gorzia. The mild climate and landscape offer ideal sites for vineyards on the surrounding hills of the pre-Alpine world and the Dinara mountain range, at the meeting point of the Vipava and the Soca Valleys. Nova Gorica is noted as a town of flowers and greenery.
