1 What is News Management?

As you sit down to read this manual, you may be wondering just what is involved in managing news traffic. The common tasks can be divided into three areas: news site management (often called "news management"), newsgroup moderation, and newsgroup supervision. The first two of these categories can be applied to any site carrying network news, while the third is specific to ANU News.

This manual covers ANU News installation and configuration, as well as ongoing management of a site running ANU News, all of which fall under the first category listed above ("news management"). However, before we forge ahead with the details, we'll provide a description of each category. For more information on the function of newsgroup moderators and newsgroup supervisors, see the documentation for the News commands used by these individuals to exercise their privileges.
