Jesenice, town in northwest of Slovenia, at the beginning of Dolina (Valley), under Mezakla (mountain), pop. 18800, stretched, polycentric. Ironworks and iron foundry with facilities on Javornik (mountain) and Belsko polje. Technical museum.

Ironwork from the Roman ages, much evolved in the Middle ages; In 1538 the mining and foundry were moved from the slopes of mountain range Karavanke to the river Sava; In 1868 the Kranjska industrijska druzba (Carniolian industry company) concentrated the Carniolian facilities at Jesenice.

Dolina (Valley), region name for the valley by the river Sava Dolinka stretching between Jesenice and village Ratece; carved between the Karavanke mountain range and Julian Alps; fluvioglacial pebbles and glacial formations. Well developed tourism (Kranjska Gora, Ratece, Planica) with industry and commerce center Jesenice.

Road connection with Kanal valley (to the south) and to the north through a tunnel with Austria (Koroska). The road tunnel under Karavanke was built in 1989, length 7864 m.
