Few growers in Haloze make their own wine, and even fewer bottle and sell it under their own trade name. Konrad Janzekovic is one of the more successful, and his products wines won a number of medals and awards at exhibitions in Slovenia.
Grapes for Turcan wines grow on Turski Vrh near Zavrc. Janzekovic cultivates three hectares (7.4 acres) of vineyards, 1.8 hectares of his own and the rest leased. He grows only white wines characteristic of the Haloze area: Laski Rizling dominates his production, followed by Sauvignon, Rumeni Muskat, and Muskat Otonel. Chardonnay, Sivi Pinot, and Renski Rizling are still rare in his vineyards.
Janzekovic prepares two hundred hectoliters (5284 gallons) of wine annually. Seventy hectoliters (1849 gallons) is a blend of Laski Rizling, Renski Rizling, Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Rumeni Muskat marketed as table wine. thirty hectoliters (792 gallons) of Janzekovic's wines are in the quality range, and the rest is high-quality. The Turcan trade name is well known for its special editions of quality and high-quality wines such as Valentinovo Vino (St. Valentine's Wine) and Novoletna Polnitev (wine bottled on New Year's Day).
Janzekovic's special quality wines are quite successful: his Laski Rizling and Sauvignon suhi jagodni izbor were both awarded gold medals and Champion titles at the Ptuj exhibition in 1994. The regular harvest Rumeni Muskat is also quite good: his 1990 and 1991 vintages were declared varietal Champions at Podgorci. His Sauvignon, Sivi Pinot, and Muskat Otonel have also won favourable reviews.
The best Turcan vintage is 1993.
