WHITE WINES: rebula, chardonnay, sivi pinot, tokaj
WINEGROWING AREA: Brda

The Stekar estate's primary activity is tourism. Roman and Anuska Stekar offer their guests lodgings in a pleasant, homey environment, good traditional food, excursions through Brda and its surroundings - and their wine. The winegrowing tradition of their estate can be traced as far back as 1771.

The estate has five hectares (12.4 acres) of vineyards growing mostly traditional grapes of the Brda area: the red Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon and the white Rebula, Sivi Pinot, Chardonnay, and Tokaj. The annual yield of forty-five tons is processed into three hundred hectoliters (15,852 gallons) of wine: thirty hectoliters (7926 gallons) of table wine are mostly sold on the estate, seventy hectoliters (1850 gallons) is quality range, and the rest is high-quality.

Tradition is the rule of the Stekar's cellar: all their wines are fermented and matured in aged oak barrels.

Rebula dominates their production with sixty hectoliters (1585 gallons) annually. This wine receives special attention as Roman and Anuska Stekar believe that this grape is the best suited to the ampelographic conditions of Brda and that it can not be produced with better results anywhere else. In terms of quantity, Chardonnay takes second place. Red grapes are processed into traditional wines and fresh rosé.

Roman and Anuska Stekar believe that their best wine was the 1988 Rebula, while the 1989 and 1993 vintages also turned out very well.
