Eleven hectares (27.2 acres) of vineyards make Jurij Hlupic one of the largest independent winegrowers of the Podravje region. He grows only white grapes, a large spectrum of vines traditional to the Maribor area: Laski Rizling, Renski Rizling, Beli Pinot, Sivi Pinot (frequently referred to as Rulandec in Podravje), Rizvanec, Rumeni Muskat, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon. Hlupic's sites are among the sunniest in the Maribor area; with plentiful sugar in the grapes, his wines are quite strong and almost never dry.
Hlupic makes very aromatic wines with a majestic, almost overpowering bouquet, which regularly win awards at wine fairs in Ljubljana and Gornja Radgona. His late harvest Sauvignon 1991 was declared Slovene varietal Champion at the Maribor Wine Exhibition in 1992. Hlupic exports many of his wines, and his Laski Rizling, Beli Pinot, Sauvignon, and Traminec have won a number of awards in London. His Beli Pinot is this author's favourite.
Jurij Hlupic has been bottling his wines since 1980; his best vintages are 1983, 1986, 1989, 1990, and 1993.
