The Cotars' vineyards lie on the high karst between Komen and the Italian border. Refosk vines dominate, producing Kraski Teran; among red varieties they also grow Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Cotars' white wines are Chardonnay and Sauvignon.
The Cotars' cellaring is strictly classical, and their wines are fermented and matured in oak barrels. A wine archive next to the cellar stores his best vintages.
The Cotars' Kraski Teran is well known throughout Slovenia; its aroma is very strong, and the wine is heavily macerated in keeping with the karst tradition. Branko and Vasja Cotar claim that some vintages of their Teran ages well, which is quite unusual for this type of wine.
Connoisseurs especially appreciate Cotar's Cabernet Sauvignon Barrique.
The best Cotar vintages are 1989 and 1993.
