Čarga is a name with long history. In accordance with Slovene tradition, the estate has kept the name of its first owner, Adam Čarga, whose surname first appears on official documents from 1767 when Adam baptized his son. Adam Čarga acquired the estate from Counts Thurn-Taxis (della Torre).
The estate is located in the village of Pristavo at some 150 meters (370 ft.) above sea level. The family cultivates four to five hectares (9.9 to 12.4 acres) of vineyards. The traditional Rebula is the dominant vine, and Tokaj, Chardonnay, Sivi Pinot, and Sauvignon are also grown. Annual production varies from two hundred to four hundred hectoliters (5284 to 10,586 gallons); half of the wine is in the quality range, half in high-quality. Edbin Erzetič won his first award in 1988 when his Tokaj 1987 was awarded the silver medal at the Ljubljana Wine Fair.
The Čarga estate produces primarily fresh wines, fermented in stainless steel vats. Quality is very constant.
Edbin Erzetič is proud to offer two specialties. He is one of the rare Brda winegrowers to keep Chardonnay grapes on the vine until overripe; the resulting wine is semi-dry, with a very rich aroma.
Čarvina is a passito-style wine made from dried Rebula grapes; it is quite strong, semi-sweet, and aromatic. The 1992 vintage of this dessert wine won Edbin Erzetič a gold medal at the 1994 Wine Fair in Gornja Radgona.
The best vintages from the Čarga estate are 1992 and 1994.
