Visitors to the Brda area are familiar with Cvetko and Elvis Buzinel's excellent inn in Medana, where their wines can be sampled accompanied by traditional dishes of the area.
The Buzinels cultivate seven hectares of vineyards around Medana, with over 80% on the Italian side of the border. Their sites in western Brda are very sunny and have sandy soils.
Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are the predominant red wines; their white wines encompass a range of varieties traditional to the Brda area: Rebula, Tokaj, Sauvignon, and Sivi Pinot.
The Buzinel cellar is a harmony of traditional and modern: Oak barrels and barriques are used for the production of full-bodied wines, particularly the red Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon; stainless steel vats contain fresh white wines.
The Buzinels' Merlot has won a number of awards at wine fairs in Slovenia and abroad; in comparison with average Slovene Merlots, this wine is aged in oak somewhat longer, giving it a detectable vanilla fragrance and a velvety taste.
A specialty of the Buzinels' production is the Sauvignon R3, "R3" denoting the original French clone that seems to be particularly well suited to the soils and climate of western Brda where it produces a particularly aromatic wine.
